Fordwych Road
Fordwych Road
A rear kitchen extension and renovation to a period home on Fordwych Road in London. The back of the house was opened up into a single bright, open-plan kitchen and dining room, lit from above by a run of roof lanterns and opening onto a sandstone patio and garden through full-width bifold doors.
The heart of the job was the structural steelwork. To create one uninterrupted space we designed and installed a complex arrangement of steel beams, carrying the full weight of the storeys above on the new frame. All of the support work was carried out from within the home itself and carefully sequenced, so the structure above was held throughout — without a single crack or any damage.
Behind the engineering, the finish is warm and unfussy: handleless kitchen units and a black range cooker set against a teal glass splashback, light oak floors run through the whole ground level, and an original arched opening was kept to link the new kitchen back to the reception at the front of the house. Delivered from the first drawing to the final fix by a single accountable team.
